A word about credits and class designations:

While the PA Homeschool law does not define a credit, the measure of a credit is defined in another section of the public school code as 120 clock hours.  Several diploma programs have expanded that definition to include 120 logged entries, 2/3 a textbook, or a substantial 10-page research paper.   Partial credits are then calculated against those measures with 60 logged entries, 1/3 of a whole credit textbook, or a substantial 5-page research paper being a half-credit.   Learning Station offers suggested credit values of 1 or 1/2, based on the hours of work expected in each class, but credit assignment is at the parent's discretion.

  • Classes with significant homework (at least 60 hours when combined with the class time) that the teacher will grade are labeled ACADEMIC.
  • Classes with little (less than an hour per week) to no homework and are typically ungraded are labeled ENRICHMENT.  Despite the low workload, some of these classes may help meet the 7th-12th grade check-off requirements like PE, music, art, safety, health, etc.   Parents may decide to bundle these classes with other coursework or classes to constitute a half or whole transcript credit.
  • New this year is the ACADEMIC HYBRID class.  These classes are a hybrid between parent-led and teacher-led courses.  They may require the parent to supervise their student’s at-home progress in a designated curriculum.  Wednesday's class time will be used to review the material, answer questions, check comprehension, and make real-life applications.     Alternatively, an ACADEMIC HYBRID class may indicate that the course will fall short of a half-credit, but the teacher has suggestions for parents who wish to expand the class into a credit-worthy course.  Those suggestions may include reading options, essay prompts, or project ideas.  It will be up to the parent to assign and grade those optional activities.

Age requirements

***Please Note: Learning Station qualifies the age of 7th grade students as being 12 on or before September 15.  If your child has their 12th birthday between August 28 and September 15 and is unable to register for classes due to this variable, please contact [email protected] for further instructions.***
