A word about credits and class designations:
Learning Station partners with parents to provide learning opportunities to enhance and augment their students’ home education. Please read each class description carefully so you can best determine how the class will fit into your homeschool program. It is the parent's responsibility to award credits to their homeschooled students, but we offer recommendations based on the expected workload of each class. Classes labeled “ACADEMIC” are expected to meet the hour or textbook requirements for a half or whole credit*. All other classes will be labeled ENRICHMENT. That does not mean that they have no credit value, but rather that they would likely need to be bundled with other classes or coursework to meet the standard of a half or whole high school credit. Some enrichment classes like PE, music, art, safety, health, etc. are designed to meet the 7th-12th ‘checklist’ subjects that do not have minimum credit requirements assigned.
*While the PA Homeschool law does not define a credit, the measure of a credit is defined in another section of the public school code as 120 clock hours. Several diploma programs have expanded that definition to include 120 logged entries, 2/3 a textbook, or a substantial 10-page research paper. Partial credits are then calculated against those measures with 60 logged entries, 1/3 of a whole credit textbook, or a substantial 5-page research paper being a half-credit. Learning Station offers suggested credit values of 1 or 1/2, based on the hours of work expected in each class, but credit assignment is at the parent's discretion.
