I understand that Learning Station parents retain their role as supervisor of their child’s education; therefore, I will include them in all email communication with their child.  (Messages sent through the class forum go to both parents and students.) Parents are expected to allow ICTs to conduct their classes, set rules and make assignments without undue interference. I agree to have a cooperative spirit and be open to discussing concerns with parents. If a problem arises that cannot be resolved between the parent and me or that requires immediate intervention, I will alert the upper level coordinator.

Please read the expectations for academic and enrichment classes below and indicate your agreement to follow the appropriate guidelines for any classes you teach.

10. *

Expectations/Duties for ICTs of Academic Courses

  • Classes with a significant amount of homework (at least 60 hours when combined with the class time) may be listed as an academic course.
  • Homework should be assigned every week and be collected or checked by the next scheduled class. Homework should be returned in a timely manner so students can benefit from the feedback.

  • ICTs are expected to issue grades which may be based on class participation, assignments, homework, projects, quizzes, tests and/or exams.

  • ICTs are expected to post assignments and grades on their Classroom Dashboard on homeschool-life.com.   (Assistance and training are available for teachers who are not comfortable using the online platform.)   Because academic teachers will use this online application to share grades with parents and students and will enter grades in a timely manner, no other grade reporting is necessary.

Expectations/Duties for ICTs of an Enrichment Course

  • Class that have little (less than an hour per week) to no homework may be listed as enrichment.

  • ICTs are not required to assign grade for enrichment courses, however, they may use the Classroom Dashboard to post a pass/fail grade OR issue a written progress report or a certificate of achievement at the end of each semester.  Progress report forms and personal certificates of achievement may be requested from the upper level coordinator.

Expectations/Duties for ICTs of a Hybrid Course

  • Hybrid classes are split between parent-led and teacher-led courses and will offer students the opportunity to earn a half or whole credit.   ICTs may require parents to supervise their student's at-home progress in a designated curriculum or grade assignments. Class time may be used to review material, answer questions, check comprehension, and make real-life applications.  Alternatively, an academic hybrid class may indicate a course that falls short of a half-credit, but the teacher is willing to suggest optional assignments to parents who wish to expand the class into a credit-worthy course.  Those suggestions may include reading options, essay prompts, or project ideas.  It will be up to the parent to assign and grade those optional activities.

I understand the three categories of classes and the expectations attached, and I affirm that all of my classes are appropriately labeled.

If I must miss a class, I agree to help students progress with their work either by email, by online instruction, or by incorporating the information into other classes.  If I wish to schedule a make-up class, I will discuss that option with the upper level coordinator first.   I understand that it is my responsibility to notify the upper level coordinator and my students of my absense.  The coordinator may assist with notifying students if necessary.
